When you say ‘premium hikes’, you say Lanaken. Lanaken offers not one but two premium routes in its hiking portfolio. A first for both Lanaken and Belgium, as these are the only two premium hikes you can find in the entire country.
These routes received the hiking quality label in 2016 from the ‘Deutsches Wanderinstitut’, and were assessed based on strict quality criteria. This concerns both the quality of the surrounding landscape and the nature of the paths.

Buying a hiking map
The routes can easily be followed thanks to clear signposting. But do you feel more confident with a map in your pocket? These are available at the Museum Church (Oud-Rekem), the Water Castle (Lanaken) or at the Tourism office at the children’s farm. Make sure to check the opening hours in advance.
Types of premium hikes
There’s no better way to explore nature than with a solid hike. Among the more than 440 km of walking paths, you will also find the red Premium Hike. That this route fully deserves its label becomes clear very quickly during your walk.
The purple Premium Hike, also known as the heath hike, truly lives up to its name. At the end of August, when the heath is in full bloom, this is one of the most beautiful routes (11.4 km) in and around Lanaken.
