It’s undeniable that Lanaken is at the heart of four regions. As part of the picturesque RivierPark Maasvallei and Hoge Kempen National Park, you’ll discover hidden natural gems in every direction. Its strategic location on the border of Belgian and Dutch Limburg makes Lanaken the ideal starting point for a cycling adventure through both Limburgen.
Along the way, you’ll enjoy stunning nature, fresh air, and peaceful surroundings. And of course, Lanaken wouldn’t be Limburg without its many charming villages.
Although Lanaken isn’t very large in size, it boasts more than 60 km of the Limburg cycling network. Most routes are paved, but mountain bikers will also find plenty of challenges.
Flirting with the Border
Recently, new cycling routes have been added to the already impressive network. The first, Park Uilenspiegel, lies between junction 131 and 558. The second, Zouwdal, runs between Veldwezelt and Smeermaas. This one is highly recommended. You’ll cross the Belgian-Dutch border several times, truly “flirting” with it. Want to know how often? Count the border posts along the way.
Fertile Cycling Ground
Discovering Lanaken by bike is always a great idea—solo, with friends, or as a family. It’s no coincidence that many former and current cycling pros live here.
